Tammany
Yacht Club is located on the north shore of beautiful Lake
Pontchartrain in Slidell, Louisiana. It was granted a charter
on July 25, 1980. Within a year, it had been welcomed into
the Gulf Yachting Association and enjoys full reciprocal arrangements
with member clubs along the Gulf coast from Florida to Texas. In the
fall of 1990, Tammany Yacht Club moved from its' Bayou Liberty Location
to its' current location at Oak Harbor, Slidell. Tammany Yacht Club
strives in its quest for a better understanding of the art and science
of yachting as a wholesome sport, the promotion of seamanship, the
promotion of boat and yacht racing, and the enjoyment of the fellowship
that these activities foster.
What
We Do
Bill Watson
Memorial Series - TYC sponsors three
Wednesday night racing series, open to members and non-members alike. These races are designed
to appeal to everyone from novice racers to some of the best sailors on
the lake.
Club Championship - The TYC club
Championship series is open to club members and is held on various
weekends throughout the year.
The series determines the TYC champion for the year.
Inter-club Racing - Above and beyond these
races are the races open to all GYA members.
TYC sponsors two of these annual
regattas, the Two Against the Lake Race and the Single
Handed Around the Lake Race, as well as co-sponsoring the Lake
Pontchartrain Racing Circuit.
Off Shore Racing - If off shore racing is
more to your liking, GYA events on the Gulf abound during the racing
season. TYC is
proud of the impressive number of wins in these events including a
first in fleet and several first in Class in the Regatta Al Sol
Cruising - Each year, TYC’s
cruising committee schedules a number of enjoyable boat cruises. From cruises to local
restaurants to coastal cruising on the gulf, these events attract power
boaters and sailors alike. If
parading is what you enjoy, TYC co-sponsors and participates in the
annual Eden Isles Christmas Boat Parade.
Social
- TYC has a very active calendar which includes many annual theme
events such as the Calypso and Shipwreck parties and the Crawfish races
and Couchon du Lait. The club is open five days a week and regularly
features Friday Night Dinners catered by local restaurants.
GYA Membership
-
Our Club is a member of
the Gulf Yachting Association (GYA), allowing our members to enjoy
reciprocal privileges at all GYA clubs around Lake Pontchartrain
and along the gulf coast from Texas to Florida
